Advice on seaming together
I need a bit of help, surprise, surprise! I finished and got to 46 inches and blocked to 10. So, I tried to put it together the way it said, and I have a huge gap in the back - it hangs down. Any advice?
I tried to shorten it (not really but hypothetically), and if I did it, then it looked nothing like it was supposed to look.
What would yall suggest?

I casted for Phoebe again last night and I think I got it this time:

My little mnemonic to check I am doing it right: yo always before p2tog, second stitch of the p2tog is always a yo from previous row.

Hi everyone,
After my issues with the pattern, I finally figured it out and I have been knitting on Phoebe like a madwoman (madknitter?). I really really want to wear it this coming Sunday for Easter. But, I have a question. How long are yall knitting it? I admit that I am a little anxious to finish it, but I measured around my shoulders, and I am about 40 inches around if I am measuring correctly. I know I need to have some give, but do you think I need to have 46 inches? Hmmm... something to ponder.
But, I do have 30 inches!!

Let's define "challenging"
"Challenging" means "You cannot watch the Manchurian candidate and knit Phoebe at the same time". The thing about this pattern is that if I make a mistake, I am dead in the water, I can't fix it. So I frogged .....

Hi! New yarn, ready to start again
I'm new to the knitalong, and as I said in a comment to an earlier post, I've cast on three times so far! I think I'm getting the hang of it, and putting stitch markers every pattern repeat helps a LOT. I'm crazy to be doing this 'cause I'm a new knitter (two novelty scarves, most of a purse, and 3/4 of a sock since early February), but I'm doing it anyway -- and learning to be careful, very careful, and patient.
I was oh so eager to get started, so I went out Monday night to a big-box hobby store and bought some soft pink Bernat CottonTots two-ply -- a soft single ply with a tiny ply wrapped around it -- appropriate needles, and little rings for markers. Monday night and Tuesday I cast on, made it through several rows, and after some progress ripped it all out, three times. Tuesday evening it occurred to me to use the stitch markers -- aha! Much lower stress level.
My gut says I'm not thrilled with the cotton -- it's okay but not a pleasure to work with -- so today I stopped in at my local yarn store and decided on some gorgeous pale green Alpaca & Silk (50/50 ) sportweight yarn from Blue Sky Alpacas, the "spring" color. It's lighter weight, 50g/146 yards (yes I'll get more for the capelet -- she has plenty & it's all the same lot). I'm guessing I'll need to change needle size, maybe. It's in a skein so I have to make a ball before casting on; more opportunity for patience :)
I'm delighted to join my first knitalong, and I'll post a picture when I have something to show!
blessings,
Barbara

I casted Phoebe last night, with Peruvian Collection Pure Alpaca from Elann - I just love this yarn, it's incredibly soft and almost silky. The pattern is unusual and a little challenging, but I love it so far. Photos later tonight on my blog.

Hey everyone, I'm the new member to the group, Alexa. I'm planning to knit Phoebe as a gift for my Mother's birthday, althoug it's definetly not going to get done in time. I somehow manage to start projects right before I have a lot of stuff to study, or I have a bunch of other knitting projects that have to get done. (Baby sweater, anyone?)
Anyways, I'm knitting my capelet out of Lorna's Laces Shepherd Worsted. It's such an amazingly soft yarn with brilliant color, but it also comes at a price- $16.50 per skein! Thankfully I only need one, but hey, it's for my Mom, so it's definetly worth it. Yes, I promise that pictures will come soon!

So, I thought I lost my magazine and I have been working on this for a couple of hours and I can't get the stitch pattern down. I CO 34 stitches, moved my yarn to the front, slipped 2 and then moved it to the back. So when I p2tog, I had 2 stitches instead of decreasing a stitch, p2 and eventually made it across the row. The yos are a little difficult to see, but I can figure them out.
I think the 2nd row is where I am having major problems. I then Sl 2 with the yarn in back and kept the yarn in the back so when I p2tog I had 2 stitches instead of 1 so I didn't decrease. This is where I am thinking I am having the problem. I skip the yo step, but if I yo then the yarn comes back to the front and I loose stitches. Then I k2tog but instead of slipping off the stitches, I knit into the first stitch. I have 1 new stitch and I eventually made it across. But, it looks very very funny. And, the yos don't actually work, they just look like loops so I don't end up knitting them because I can't tell what they are.
I hope this makes sense! I am to the give up point and I don't want to knit it anymore!! Help!
30 min later.... ( I edited).
I figured out what I need to do, but I am having issues with how I need to do it. I know I need to have 2 stitches on my needle from the p2tog hence the yo. Well, when I do the yo it brings the yarn to the front which doesn't create a 2nd stitch. So, I have been leaving the yarn in the back and skipping the yo (because my previous sitch was a knit one) but that creates a really funny yo that is super hard to see. Can yall tell me what I am doing wrong?
